The reviewer is correct. The lack of rapid charging is a killing point. It will have to have that socket and charging ability to compete. I know many people in SW USA who would use it on medium and long trips, as we finally have some spacing of such chargers now…in the SW USA. But this wonderful car ends up more limited than my little I-Miev – for the I-Miev can do rapid. Such a limitation is ridiculous for Mercedes.
If they can get 300+ miles out of a charge, and if the recharge can get as fast as fillling a tank (e.g., Tesla’s battery swap method), I’ll happily have one as my next car in 4 years.
Alan Stainer I keep seening the blue-accented Beemers around. Ick. Who’s “great idea” was this? Tesla have proven your car doesn’t have to look stupid in order to be eco-friendly.
I can sort of understand why they chose blue, because it is associated with electricity (sparks and all that). Also it helps to identify at a glance which cars are electric.
Alan Stainer I…suppose? But what’s the point of identifying them? If you want an electric car, you’re going to seek one out. I can’t quite see someone seeing an ‘electric blue’ (jeeze…the penny just dropped) car going down the street and thinking, “Oooh…now I want an electric car!”
I can only guess that it is for visibility. The more electric cars that people see on the road, the more acceptable they become to people that haven’t really paid attention or expressed an interest. It’s basically branding.
Why are all electric cars accented with blue these days?

It’s still a stupid idea though.

Alan Stainer That’s a pretty good point.
And now we can get power from a bumpy road.
