Avast is buying AVG

July 7, 2016 by Alan Stainer

Avast is buying AVG

I have been going off AVG recently. Repeatedly being nagged to install additional products, things going wrong, etc. It all adds up.

So I have moved back to using Avast instead. With this new acquisition, will we see the end of AVG altogether?

Wow I wonder if it’s actually worth buying AVG.

AVG has definitely got problematic over the last 6 months. On the XP machine it was forever downloading updates and wanting me to reboot. Like I want to sit for an hour while the computer reboots.

The popups on Windows 10 are terrible and I’ll probably get one now for saying that.

Even worse is the way that a scheduled virus scan will grind the computer to a near halt. It isn’t even scanning that much.

I’ve used AVG for a long time now so I am not rushing to change. I’m going to see what emerges first.

Folks should look at the pioneers of FREE AV software, AVIRA as an alternative.  It is one of the few that is not run by control freaks ( so far ).  https://www.avira.com/
