There is now sufficient energy storage for EV’s to compete with internal combustion. If 1% of the money spent on gas guzzlers had been focused on battery development, we’d have had this 25 years ago.

Kyllein MacKellerann yup. It is sad the lobbying and misinformation that has been perpetrated by the oil industry. Things are looking up, but it may be too late.

Alan Stainer Maybe – but remember that there is an opening field here for competition and further development that the automakers will have to engage in or lose their market share. Like the “efficiency wars” of the 1980’s and the “fuel economy” contests of the early 2000’s the main makers will have to get on board with electric power.
What’s annoying about this is that our current “Clean Electrics” are anything but. Most of the electricity they run on is generated by coal or oil. so the “Clean” bit means “Clean locally” and not “Clean” in the fullest sense of the word. There will be a draw-down as we move away from Fossil energy and take up Renewable energy that, IMHO, will take at least twenty years to accomplish. We may get there earlier, but doing so would mean a lot of Very Important People would have to be Very Totally Scared to bring it about. We can hope, but I’m not holding my breath on this.
