A Bike Or A Car? Meet Podbike!

A Bike Or A Car? Meet Podbike!

Innovations comes in many forms and the big names shouldn’t get all the limelight.

This is Podbike, a four wheeler bike with three electric motors. Cycling and comfort and convenience combined.

    In the UK (and elsewhere), we need a good category for road users of things like this that falls between E-Bicycle (250w-25kph) and Quad, Light car. It’s like this is one size smaller/lighter than a Renault Twizy but it’s more than a trike or Velomobile.

    But then it has to share the roads with aggregate lorries, white van man, and Audi-BMW-RangeRover SUV. That’s bad enough on a bicycle. A least you wouldn’t get the punishment close pass, but you would get the road rage if it only does 15mph.

    All electric bikes, and some Robin Reliants wind up on their side through accident or horse play. The geometry of the main window opening and closing looks like it will jam on its side, and not open in an accident. Something to think about for anybody buying one. The cost of replacing that plexiglass is going to be in the $1000 to $1500 dollar range.

    MidnightVisions “All electric bikes – wind up on their side through accident or horse play.” That’s a sweeping generalisation and also this is a quad bike with a low centre of gravity. You would need to provide some evidence through rigorous testing to prove what you say is true.

    “The geometry of the main window opening and closing looks like it will jam on its side, and not open in an accident.” Even if that is true (it is your own interpretation/speculation) it is still going to be safer than an open top bike.

    “The cost of replacing that plexiglass is going to be in the $1000 to $1500 dollar range.” How do you know the cost of replacing this? Can you explain so that we are all more knowledgeable?

    Alan Stainer If it has 1500 watts and has a max speed of 60kmph then it’s not a bicycle in any jurisdiction I know of. Which means it’s something like a Quad or Light Car with all that implies. Tax, MOT, Insurance, Driver Licensing, Testing, etc, etc, etc. So broadly similar to something like the Renault Twizy I mentioned earlier.

    * ausgezeichneter Fahrkomfort unabhängig von der

    Fahrbahnbeschaffenheit

    * vollständiger Wetterschutz inklusive Dach und

    Windschutzscheibe

    * hohe Kurvenstabilität

    * geringer Parkraum

    * Möglichkeit der Mitnahme für ein Kind

    * angetrieben durch den Menschen, aber ohne Ketten und Getriebe

    * Einstufung als “Fahrrad” im EU-Raum

    * höhere Sicherheit als bisher verfügbare Velomobile

    einfache Massenproduktion

    * einfache Endmontage durch den Endnutzer zuhause

    Alan Stainer The cost is based on past experience mold making. Replacing the plexiglass is based on the size and shape. Its a fully rounded peice so its a multiform mold, which has to be done in one pass, with at least 6 people using large mits to form the heated plexiglass over an intricate shape mold. You can ask them too how they make it, but to keep the price of the vehicle below $7,000, that plexiglass shape is 1/4 of the vehicles price.
