All Jaguars will have electric drivetrains in 2020

September 8, 2017 by Alan Stainer

All Jaguars will have electric drivetrains in 2020

Traditional car manufacturers are committing to electric vehicles. It almost feels like we hear about another one every other day.

Is this the tipping point do you think?

I’m not sure we are quite at critical mass yet, but certainly it’s looking like we’ll be there very soon. What’s needed is active support by Governments, not platitudes during elections. This for me isn’t just about having a car that doesn’t exhaust a load of CO2, it’s about removing the utter dependency our entire economy has on oil, and placing it in the hands of what I hope will be, renewable energy. Our future in our own hands, and not some tinpot dictator or cabal of dodgy nations who’s intention is control and life long despotism.

People have been telling me that there is no way that cars were going to be electric before 25 years. Its 2017 and the plans are to be all electric by 2020 to 2030. I guess they were wrong.

Charles-A Rovira New cars will be all electric, but most vehicles on the road are not new. Many vehicles in my area are 15-20 years old which is why I want to see additional work on biofuels. It is nice that the rich (those that drive new) can drive vehicles that don’t add CO2 to the cycle, but the working man will have to wait for those vehicles to trickle down. Whereas biofuels would allow us to reduce our impact now.

Malcolm Person why limit it to existing refueling stations? Anywhere there is a parking space there can be a charging point. The days of queuing to refuel will be gone.

Having said that the UK government are forcing the issue by making it law that petrol stations must have charging points too.

Malcolm Person each company’s distribution outlets are individually owned. They all have to agree to changes in the terms of their contract with the oil company. Strangely enough that should be no problem though. First what choice do they have? Second its a capital improvement that they’re getting for free.
