Liar Liar

May 30, 2017 by Alan Stainer

Liar Liar

There have been a lot of political songs over the many years us humans have been roaming the Earth. Not many of them have entered the charts though.

This one has!

I would hate to be the politician this one is about. At least the tune is rather catchy. Silver lining?

And liar, liar (if correct in this instance, which it isn’t – child poverty figures are inaccurate and misleading) can’t also be attributed to Corbyn, et al, then Alan Stainer ?

Additional annual borrowing for infrastructure, scrapping tuition fees, additional funding for schools, education, NHS and social care amounts to around £50 billion. Apparently most of this is to be funded from an increase in corporation tax. Total corporation tax for the year 2016/17 was around £50 billion.

Cost of nationalisation of the National Grid, water companies, energy companies, and Royal Mail, is anywhere between £170 billion and £300 billion. Total income tax revenue 2016/17 around £176 billion.

You do the maths. And best of luck, because even the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) can’t fathom it out.

Nicholas Berry I know you love to jump onto other people’s posts and defend the Conservatives at every opportunity with ‘facts’, but I did not once in my post say anything about party policy or the state of the nation. I did not in fact say anything about my own political leanings.

Not everything about politicians is about politics.

Alan Stainer ”I know you love to jump onto other people’s posts and defend the Conservatives at every opportunity…”

To make such a definitive statement you would need to be closely monitoring my posts, as well as my comments on posts by others, on an almost daily basis. If you are, you would realise that what you’re saying is clearly not the case at all. And if you don’t monitor my posts and comments regularly (not sure whether you follow me anyway), then why make such a baseless statement? Either way (coincidentally), it’s a lie!

Nevertheless, if I do occasionally correct (or balance) false propaganda with ‘facts’, what exactly is wrong with that? Shouldn’t people be educated?

Regarding your post, unless you’re sharing something to criticise it, it’s not unreasonable to assume that you are in fact endorsing it, particularly where the post heading supports. I notice that your text is worded to suggest an apolitical stance, but I can’t help but think it’s just a convenient excuse to air a video, quite clearly designed to denigrate a particular politician with inaccurate and misleading lyrics.

You may well argue that your motives were entirely impartial and indeed you’ve pushed that notion in your comment above, but that falls rather flat when you’ve actively endorsed another’s share of the self-same video, but published in a far less dispassionate manner: ”I have been quite clear, this is grand”!
