Buying Office 365 is needlessly complicated

May 22, 2017 by Alan Stainer

Buying Office 365 is needlessly complicated

As well as jumping through hoops just to buy the right version of Office 365, you are still left with a significant download and installation before you can even use it. I remember one of my clients busted his ISPs data limit with the Office 365 download. It was the Mac version and was over 1.2 GBs in size. In fact I remember at the time comparing it with the download for Ubuntu, which is smaller and contains not only LibreOffice and Thunderbird, but an entire operating system! Anyway, the Office install also took several hours to download on my client’s poor quality internet connection.

In contrast, if you go with GSuite you can be up and running in minutes and you don’t need to install anything.

Office 365 Was Too Hard to Buy, so I Bought GSuite

Before you think about buying into Office 365 or GSuite, you really should read this excellent article first. It describes so many of the things we see when dealing with clients that are determined to try and use Microsoft Office.

I really wish more people used Linux as well. The over reliance on Windows and Microsoft in general is enough to make anyone WannaCry.

    Ooooh, there is hope yet!

Yep. The reason why the recent attack had such an effect is because there is not nearly enough diversity in the desktop market.

Thankfully I think web apps are changing things, because you no longer need to be tied to one operating system in order to get things done. Still not true in all scenarios I know, but we’re getting there.
