NHS cyber-attack: GPs and hospitals hit by ransomware

I already hate the criminals that spread malware. I hate them even more now.

I really hope this was just some unlucky event and not a deliberate targeting of the NHS.

The article doesn’t state how the exploit propagated but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was malware sent over email. It says other organisations were affected as well, I wonder what those are and if they’re also government agencies

As of 4pm it hadn’t impacted on my Trust, and I raised the issue with our ICT dept who quickly put out a warning for people not to click on unexpected attachments or links. So I’ll hazard a guess it’s propagating via e-mail.

Thankfully my systems are AIX based,.. but windows client telnet sessions .. I’ve got the linux iso on standby !!

I’m of the view that the NHS as the 2nd largest organization in the world (second to the Chinese Army) just became noticeable faster than other organizations that may not be important enough to have got noticed (if they’ll own up to it).

Lack of cyber-security protocols, firewalls, employee supervision, employee education, virus protection software not current all contributed to this problem.
