They’re not advertising in the UK at all. A friend of mine tried to get a test drive in a Ford EV, there are only 2 places in the UK which do this and if you actually try to book it just states “Escort” and not the propulsion.

It isn’t the Electric Car that is the problem: first and foremost we need a standardized charging system, available nationwide, that will recharge any electric vehicle in a reasonable time. Until we have that, Electrics are going to remain a niche, town-only vehicle.

The whole thing is insane.. I tried hard to get a test drive of Focus EV but they only have them in Bristol and London! They said it’s up to the dealers (and seemingly do not care about encouraging them). They said there is no demand (yet Tesla took 700,000 x $1000 deposits for an equivalent size/cost car!!).
From what I could find online there were only FOUR Focus EVs registered in 2016!
The website won’t let you pick EV for test drive and I’d bet money no dealers have brochures for them.

The auto industry in general don’t want to know, but things are changing. Increasing sales and the success of the Nissan Leaf and Tesla is making people take notice.

Only Tesla’s chargers are locked to Tesla’s. All others can be used by anyone (though there are some competing connectors, generally rapids are in groups with at least one of each and slower posts are AC and usable by all cars)

> we need a standardized charging system, available nationwide, that will recharge any electric vehicle in a reasonable time. Until we have that, Electrics are going to remain a niche, town-only vehicle.
We have standard charging systems I wouldn’t say they’re a “town-only” vehicle already.
My wife and I have driven EVs for over two years and we’ve never had a problem charging. We drove 305 miles to Poole for a holiday, charged for 2 weeks down there, then drove 305 miles back. Not only where there no issues, we didn’t pay for any of the charging.
Every charger except the Tesla superchargers is either a Type 2 AC (which almost every EV can use – the Twizzy is the only one I know that can’t use it, since it only has a 3-pin adapter) and rapids tend to all have AC, CCS and CHAdeMO heads.
Current cars have reasonable range (we did 130miles at 70mph in the IONIQ with heating, heated seats and heated wheel on and had 10 miles left) and a 30 minute stop to refuel isn’t that bad (esp. if you have kids like us).
Sure, people are used to driving further without stops, but it’s unfair to take the disadvantages without looking at the advantages too (for example, we’re saving £100/month in fuel since switching, and the car preheats itself so we’re never scraping ice in the winter, our car is warm before we step out the front door!).
I wouldn’t say EVs are ready for everyone yet (nor would I encourage anyone buy one if they’re not prepared to take some issues), but they’re definitely way more usable than your’e suggesting and the charging is definitely not as bad as you suggest.

Ryan exactly. Ford is the only automaker that did NOT take the bailout. Some people can’t seem to grasp the concept of research before making a comment.

The union workers at Ford gave up a lot to prevent them from taking the bailout. In fact the CEO admits in a report that the Union saved them from that.

Renita Masoner You have proved my point exactly. Corporations when in desperate circumstances ask the public for help, even there own employees. When it’s time to return the favor they are completely ignorant of the conversation and send manufacturing over seas.
Henry ford was against unions, lol now they needed them to rescue them. Pathetic…..

Kindell Armstrong Henry Ford is no longer alive. Irrelevant these days. As far as the union, we may have saved them but the bottom line is they never took the bailout and what they took from the members is now being paid back. You will need to get over it. Unless you work for Ford, like I do. I see where I have room to talk. Do you?

ruth ashely how is Ford dead? I can tell you that GM will be having 10weeks downtime because of sales, for one. And they have already over 4 weeks of downtime in 2017. Ford is still running and in fact they are adding shift times and OT to the members. Doesn’t sound dead to me. Both Ford and GM are great vehicles to purchase. I can’t speak derogatory against another automaker, especially one that is American made. However, those are the facts.

The auto industry in general don’t want to know, but things are changing. Increasing sales and the success of the Nissan Leaf and Tesla is making people take notice.

Alan Stainer True, but as long as charge stations remain “brand-locked” rather than ubiquitous, electrics won’t get the sales they need to be viable.

Only Tesla’s chargers are locked to Tesla’s. All others can be used by anyone (though there are some competing connectors, generally rapids are in groups with at least one of each and slower posts are AC and usable by all cars)
