Old School Green Technology

Old School Green Technology

This was posted over on Facebook by my friend Sushma Windsor

I thought it was worth sharing here, because bees are really important and Sushma’s post is the bees knees.

So here goes the list of easy garden plants to encourage a variety of bees and help them feed for longer:

For early spring – Helleborus foetidus, spring flowering heather including Heathers, Erica spp, Crocus, aconites, Coronilla valentina subsp. glauca, Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Fota Blue, Pulmonaria officinalis (any colour, but blue attracts more bees) Late Spring onwards – Aquilegia, Bistort, Allium, Allium siculum, Sicilian honey garlic, Caryopteris x clandonensis, Cirsium rivulare, Echinops, Globe thistle, Foxglove, Digitalis purpurea, Hellenium, Hollyhock, Jacob’s ladder, Polemonium caeruleum, Hyssop, Hyssopus officinale, Lavender, Marjoram, Origanum vulgare, Monarda, Bee balm, salvia (most of them but shrub variety will be longer flowering), Catmint, Scabious, sedum spectabile, Sidalcea, Thrift , Thyme, Veronicastrum virginicum, fennel, Euphorbia characias subsp. wulfenii, Lupin, heritage roses with open centres, Antirrhinum, snapdragon, Aster, achillea millefolium, dahlias……..

Choose the plants carefully for height and aspect so that you get the best out of them. This is by no means the full list, but hopefully it will give you a start to look for plants you can recognise and find plants you may enjoy in your borders.

Do not forget that bumblebees absolutely love all forms of pesticide free native flowers and native wild berries. It does not have to be more complicated than making sure our gardens and surrounding property and meadows are filled with native wildflowers and berries.

I used to affraid of bees, then one day while harvesting mullberries the need were buzzing and up I went in the tree. I said..” excuse bees there are plenty of mullberries and I’m not here to harm you” I thanked them for all that they do….all of sudden the need stopped buzzing and several turned to look at me. I will never forget that moment. I was stained with mullberries my face and hands. ” As a bee seeks nectar from, all kinds of places, keep seeking knowledge everywhere” we are all connected all deserve equal rights, all deserve respect.

On the other hand, technology and GMO can absolutely be a sustainable and healthy planet and societies very best friend.

Case in point, Tesla´s solar roof. Solar and other clean energy advancements, GMO crops that survive both cold snaps and droughts and requires way less water and less pesticides and fertilizers to produce even more nutritious food in a higher quantity.

Autonomous and robotic smart tech can help make modern sustainable agriculture much, much more sustainable and friendly towards both animals and nature.

New architecture breakthroughs in both transparent wood and 3d printed materials, and so forth.

So not all tech ( and thus GMO ) is bad, a lot of it is the needed way forward and will go hand in hand with creating a healthier and more sustainable planet and society.
