Lucid Air
Another new entry in the high performance EV market. Lucid Air managed a great presentation to launch the vehicle and I really hope it gets built.
However, right at the end Robert Llewellyn has a little rant about expensive EVs and catering to an elite crowd of silicon valley chums. I have got to agree. What we really need, is not yet another super fast EV that can ‘rip your bowels out’, but cheap, affordable cars that are easy to obtain, easy to use, easy to charge and easy to share too.

Alan Stainer while I agree it’s frustrating to see these high-end models roll out, far beyond the reach of us mere mortals, and the apparent obsession with acceleration figures most of us really don’t care abou (I’m pretty happy with anything sub 7 seconds; 2.5 seconds? I’ll just kill myself or someone else), these aren’t the only new EVs on the market. Mr Llewellyn himself released a review of the Renault Zoe only a week ago, which starts at just UK£13,500, so moaning about a fast, luxury car like this while ignoring the other available EVs is a bit like moaning about a new super Ferrari while ignoring every other ICE available sub-£15k.
I think there are also financial and practical issues involved with startups that makes a lower production, higher value vehicles a better option, although I’m not expert enough to make an informed comment.

All this talk about mechanical solutions to a global population problem. Less people makes less pollution also. It used to be “zero population growth” in the 1970’s. Our problem is we can’t stop breeding like rats in our now very small cage. I decided no kids in my 20’s. More people should follow sensibility and use the brains God gave us. We always think only we matter, but we live if earth lives, not the other way around.
