Adobe is finally making a decision about Flash

September 15, 2016 by Alan Stainer

Adobe is finally making a decision about Flash

This is some pretty big news where Flash is concerned….

…or is it? As Matt Alexander suggests in the comments below, this may just be an overblown clickbait article, as all the warning really says is that a single page is being decommissioned.

Anybody actually go to the source link? There is a download page that is being removed but the page they tell you to go to get the personal version has no such warning. Seems like a clickbait article to get everyone all to say Steve Jobs was right and die flash die. I agree that browser plugins like activeX, silverlight, flash and java are no longer needed but the technology is actually still being used to develop cross platform apps that run outside the browser. Some of the top games on iOS are made in good ol Flash (the AIR variety) and some use other animation engines like Unity. Pick what works. But I guess it is cooler to just say Flash is dead. Anyway, below is a cut and paste directly from one particular webpage that had download links. No one reads anymore.

    WARNING

This page and the download links will be decommissioned on Sep 29, 2016.

If you are downloading Adobe Flash Player for your personal use, please visit get.adobe.com/flashplayer.

Organizations that distribute Adobe Flash Player internally must have a valid license and AdobeID to download and distribute Flash Player binaries. Instructions and further details on obtaining a distribution license are available at the Adobe Flash Player Distribution Page.

Alan Stainer long live flash lol. Everyone harps on it but it’s not that bad, was awesome back in the day. It’s a victim of its own success, much like windows was, it becomes a target for hackers. No other browser plugin is more talked about, no one says die Java die, maybe that’s because Java is still heavily used outside the browser?

Java and flash both need to die. They are poorly coded and result in two of the largest vectors of infection for PCs. If you live in the IT world where I do, maintaining a safe and curated environment with security flaws exposed every few days in each and constant updates is a real hassle. They both suck sweaty donkey balls!

All that is really going on here is that Adobe is making it even harder for those of us in the IT world to access the MSI versions of their installers. Now requiring us to have Adobe.com accounts to get to the latest versions.

Matt Alexander Oracle is a terrible steward of the JRE. We need to go back to when we had multiple REs for Java and let the market eliminate those companies that do it badly. Obviously the Java language is not bad, just the monopolized RE breeds laziness.
