Electric Cars are Dirty
This is good.
Actually, I would like to add that having recently spoken to a few car dealers, they aren’t necessarily deliberately talking rubbish, but they do need educating on some facts. For instance, one dealer I spoke to was convinced that electric cars are worse for the environment, because you cannot dispose of the cadmium in the batteries… Erm, last time I checked modern electric cars use lithium ion batteries, which contain no cadmium. None. Zip. Zilch. Also there are plenty of initiatives around the world designed to reuse old electric vehicle batteries. Just because they lose capacity over the years, does not mean they can’t still be used for something. It’s called recycling.
Anyway, enjoy the video. It’s quick and to the point!

Thanks for the video Alan Stainer. Interesting. My take on this is we will see more and more straight electric cars and hybrids, but the tipping point will be on price. I looked at a hybrid recently but the differential was too much to justify.

Peter Lunn the total cost of ownership over the lifetime of the vehicle is generally less for electric cars, but the most important bit for everyone I know (me included) is that price tag when purchasing. It is simply out of the reach of most people, which is why I ended up giving back the Leaf that I test drove.
There will be a tipping point and I am fairly sure it will be soon. Longer range batteries are starting to come out (the newest Leaf has a 155 mile range on a single charge) and so prices of older models are coming down fast. Also Tesla have the Model 3 due out next year, which if their previous models are anything to go by, will disrupt the market quite a lot.
