Constructing a wildlife friendly windmill

Constructing a wildlife friendly windmill

I have heard it said as an argument against windmills, that they are dangerous to birds, etc.

Well, the thing is that anyone who is really concerned about generating clean energy, is also concerned about the safety of our wildlife. That’s why it’s nice to see projects like this one where a windmill has been constructed in collaboration with the RSPB, to ensure it is as safe as possible to surrounding wildlife.

Windmills pose no greater danger to wildlife than roads, so we are not likely to see less of either. We will just coin a new phrase to go along with road kill, e.g., wind kill.

http://www.pembina.org/blog/a-whirlwind-tour-of-wind-energy-myths Scroll down to “Turbine avian genocide”.

It’s just not a problem. So there’s not a whole lot of need to find a solution to it.

Julian Bond I completely agree. It’s public perception that needs to be changed. In the meantime, projects like this will help to alleviate any misgivings people may have.

When the other factors impacting upon Wildlife Health and Mortality are considered, and compared against the Anti-Wind Farm Lobby’s arguments relating to Wildlife, they just don’t have one.

All they really have is “It spoils the view from my window”, which if atmospheric pollution continues at the rate it has been, a trip to the surrounding countryside to any major industrial Chinese City will educate them on what that view will eventually become!

Alan Stainer That “Public perception” was engendered by misinformation and scaremongering authored by the “Climate sceptics Lobby” and the “Right Wing Press”.

It is illogical to think that wind turbines or any other pollution reducing technology are more detrimental to wildlife populations than the continued destruction of the biosphere from the combustion of fossil Carbon, given that the later is now considered the primary cause of the planet’s sixth mass extinction event currently underway. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/06/150619152142.htm

It is natural for any industry threatened with extinction to fight for its survival. Educating the consumer is more effective than fighting the industry. Ultimately, everyone acts in their own self-interest, however they perceive it.

Mac Baird understood, intelligent business’s when faced with a shrinking market, diversify into new markets, whilst they still have the means! Many energy companies are realising this, whilst a few cling to their old paradigms and beliefs!

e.g., my Florida Power & Light utility is now 20% solar. Oil demand by the G-20 Industrialized Nations has dropped by 5 million bpd over the past decade as the ratio of renewable energy sources has increased.

We can see this happening in the car industry. Thanks to Tesla the existing manufacturers have had a resounding kick up the bum and are entering into the EV market as a result.
