Goodbye Universal Windows Platform, you are now playing catch up

It’s official, the Google Play store is coming to Chromebooks. I honestly cannot see Microsoft winning this one.

    Really good news !

My Toshiba 13″ Chromebook has served me so so well, in fact, I wrote my entire Masters dissertation on it, not requiring any MS packages at all to complete it :)

The addition of the Play store is fantastic, whilst I’m not interested in clash of whatever it’s called, there are a lot of productivity tools and of course, those people who just can’t get themselves off Skype which is a huge bonus.

The lines between Android and Chromebook are merging, and I’m starting to wonder .. apart from rich 3D games, what is the traditional PC really good for ? Steam is slowly removing the need for Windows .. and I just wonder, do I really need a 1000w power hog to access all I do ??

In the short term yes… It’s called Civ 6 (on Linux of course), but that’s about it.

It really is a good move by Google. Actually, although I mentioned UWP, I suspect Apple will be watching closely as well. There is now an even more compelling reason to go all in with the Google ecosystem.
