Chromebooks vs Windows laptops

February 9, 2016 by Alan Stainer

Chromebooks vs Windows laptops

This article goes into fantastic detail about the differences between laptops running Windows and those running ChromeOS.

It also brilliantly dispels the claims that Microsoft have been trying to make with regards to Chromebooks.

Been using my Chromebook(Toshiba 13″) for a while now. I’m writing my entire dissertation on it, so the myth that you can’t work on it is blown out of the water straight away.

What’s more, because I use Google docs and drive, my work moves around with me regardless of what PC I’m at, windows or otherwise.

I do like to play CIV 5 or Sim City occasionally, so my windows machine had a few minor uses, but when I’m doing my work I’m actually thankful I can’t play games on my Chromebook.. Keeps me focused.

I like that the article points out that any serious games player is not going to get a cheap laptop to play games on.

Bojan Jančar – Bo I agree with you to come extent, although I think carrying a 17″ laptop around to do my work would be a bit of an overkill.

The 13″ I have is an ok size, there are 14″ out there, but anything over 15″ and you may as well buy a nice monitor and connect it up to that.

I cannot abide by tiny 10″-11″ screens though !!

Not to mention that with really small screens generally you get really small keyboards as well.

I am still thinking about purchasing a Chromebook… I would like it to have a ultrabook form factor and I would survive with 11″ – I would like it to be mobile. BTW, how well do Chromebooks handle external monitors? Can I use them as second / independent screens?

It works perfectly fine on my 22″ monitor, but I hadn’t tried out the other options specified in this article (or tried duel screening)
