Trusteer Rapport breaks Chrome

December 4, 2015 by Alan Stainer

Trusteer Rapport breaks Chrome

I have just been sorting out my neighbour’s PC, which couldn’t connect to anything from within Chrome. I finally tracked down the problem and removed Trusteer Rapport.

If only I had seen this notification on the Trusteer website beforehand.

https://www.trusteer.com/support/compatibility-other-security-software

Now the advice from Trusteer is…. use a supported browser. I personally think telling people to use a different browser is completely unacceptable. This isn’t the internet of the 90s!

Heh. I knew there was a reason to keep saying “no thanks” when one of my regular websites asked me to d/l this. Now I see what that reason was/is. My gut was right again!

I rather like the list of software that Trusteer has problems with Alan Stainer especially given some of the big names on the list.

My online banking keeps prompting me to install Trusteer which gets a two finger salute from me.

Wonderful load of waffle on the Trusteer site too. No real explanation of what it does or why I might want it. Even fails on the regular features vs benefits line because it manages to explain neither.

I wasn’t planning on installing it and, after your post, I definitely will not be installing it

One of the great things about using Linux, is that you don’t get prompted to install Trusteer Rapport every time you want to do anything with your bank.

Oh and a quick update. That now makes two PCs I have had to fix with this exact same problem today. I suspect there will be a lot more…

Interesting and not very clever that banks are doing this. Why people would trust backs with regards to IT strategy is beyond me.

It’s probably got something to do with some doggy deal between IBM and the banks.
