Longer Range 3kWh Nissan Leaf
The battery is 25% more energy dense, so while it isn’t bigger than the previous one, it goes for quite a bit longer.
These sorts of improvements are going to get better over time and make the switch to EVs more compelling for a lot of people.
I am still driving a 2012 25 kWh Leaf with 45K miles on it. As capacity drops off a little each year, I was wondering if there will be an affordable replacement for the battery as opposed to replacing a perfectly good car?
Good question Mac Baird. Not sure if this will answer your question, but I found this article from 2014 about replacement batteries for the Leaf. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1092983_nissan-leaf-battery-cost-5500-for-replacement-with-heat-resistant-chemistry
The question I have is, how much is the range dropping on your Leaf?
My 100 mile full charge has dropped to about 75 to 80 miles at speeds under 50 mph. The good news is charging stations are popping up all over the place, especially around the cities. Here in Central Florida, they have more than doubled since I purchased my car, and most are free.
That is indeed good news
Battery can be replaced and i think that since better one is avalable for new leaf, could be replaced with energy denser battery, no?
