As Robert Llewellyn says, it isn’t 40% more polluting it is 4,000%!
I live in a small town/village called Storrington in the south of England. It is out in the countryside and yet it has the highest pollution levels in the country. This is one of the reasons I am so interested in cleaner technologies, because we are literally choking on fumes here.
So let me spell that out again, 4,000% more particulates due to VW’s cheating!

Correction right here, right now. It’s not 40% more particulates, it’s 40 times more, ie 4,000%. I actually underestimate in the video, it’s MUCH worse.
I got a bit moody making this one, but the more we discover about this wicked deceit, the more angry we should all be. We are all suffering as a result of this scandal.
