Alan Stainer Based on the descriptions above, if they’re accurate, I’d assume that the 0-60 in 2.8 seconds must be due to the extended amount of time the car is able to sustain the 1.1Gs, so you’d feel like you’re falling for longer, but the total force is pretty close to the same, or slightly more.
In a video that Consumer Reports did, they showed that the Tesla Model S P85D Insane Mode has a ~1G for the 0-30, so I’m assuming that Ludicrous Mode is a more prolonged version of the falling feeling… maybe even the full 0-60?
Terry Simons It’s not for the full 0-60. If you maintain a constant 1.1G for 0-60MPH you can do it in 2.5 seconds (which shows that there’s potential for even more improvements down the line in 0-60MPH times because the fundamental limit is tire slip and if you can reach any amount of acceleration then the only thing preventing you is more power).
Secondly according to the consumer reports test, the P85D only maintains approximately 1G rather than 1.1G.
Tesla has stated that it will maintain the higher acceleration for longer though.

kma198199 1.21 GIGAWATTS, great scott! Did you even get the energy star rated flux capacitor, my DeLorean time machine only uses 1.20 gigawatts of power.

Ergzay It never really maintains one g but it gets close to peaking at 1.1.

Alan Stainer The speed difference between these two mods is about 0.2 sec. I don’t think it’ll be noticeable.
