Nature is full of wonders

Here is a photo I took yesterday. I have highlighted the butterfly so you can see it better. I spotted this little critter (there were two in fact) outside Sullington Village Hall in West Sussex. I have never seen a butterfly with these markings before and neither had my parents or father-in-law.

Any ideas what it is called?
