See, this is what some of us mean when we say, “The tech media is sycophantic about ascribing every invention ever to Apple.” It’s as if they fear that to not credit everything to Apple will get them blacklisted and they won’t get their free, totally-without-any-expectations-of-a-favor (of course) device units from the fruit company.
In Gruber’s mind, dozens of groups and corporations involved in the development of a new standard sat around twiddling their thumbs waiting for Sir Jony Ive to receive divine revelation before they got any work done.
If anyone else was trying to credit the entire project to any one company, this might just be dismissed as ‘how it works in the media’. But no one is crediting Samsung or Google or any of the other companies with inventing the new standard. No, only Apple. Only ever Apple is credited for every invention, ever, in the history of computing.
