Recover data from a corrupt Windows drive with Linux

Just been doing this very thing again yesterday, this time on a Windows 8 laptop. As Windows 8 had been using Fastboot, the drive wasn’t immediately accessible to Linux (Ubuntu). However, running the standard disk tools allowed me to mount it in read only mode, which is all you need to recover data.

Definitely a faulty drive though, as the data copy (less than 20GBs) took over 12 hours to complete…
