It’s all about that first impression
Google+ Local is often the first glimpse that anyone has of your business. So making good use of your Google+ brand page is a must.

Alan Stainer I’m still confused, and I can’t explain why! I’ve always posted on the Google+ page and not the local! not even sure that it still exists? Am I making any sense, was under the impression they had merged., Julia Poole
It is confusing. If you created a brand page before Google+ Local replaced Google Places, then your brand page won’t be the sort to have a map pin. If you had a Google Places page, then you can ‘merge’ that with Google+ to make it a Google+ Local page.
It is very possible to end up with two brand pages that way. Which is exactly what happened to me. For me specifically, I have already invested time in building up the first brand page I created, so it makes sense for me to continue doing that. Although it is still important to spend a little time getting the Google+ Local page sorted out, as that is the one that will appear in local search results.
Currently I don’t think it is possible to merge the two types of brand page.
Does that help explain it better?
Thanks Alan Stainer I will take another look at it! but I created the Google+ page long after the changes for places, didn’t Google then automatically create a plus page? This may explain why I have another page, not created by me and now shows up as a duplicate when I log in.
Ah, if you had a Places page and then independently created a Google+ Local page, then your old Places page may well be a Google+ Local page now.
So, are you saying you have two Google+ Local pages? If the old Places page hasn’t been upgraded yet, you can request it be removed.
Alan Stainer I do believe there is only one page. Can see my listing, then my page.
But when I log in I have another page which was showing a red line through it, saying it was detected as spam, duplicate. I’ve totally ignored it thinking if it was deleted everything would disappear.
Just tried searching and can only see the one page for you, which is a Google+ Local page. So, erm, keep up the good work Elite Cleaning Ltd.!
Oh eck! Is that good news then Alan Stainer?
I believe so. :)
Thank you very much Alan Stainer for confirmation, clarification, that all is indeed #Elite, Julia :)
^^ Which is partly why a lot of Facebook Page users refuse to move to Google+ Local Pages. They did absolutely screw up the development of Google Local which is a crying shame as it really is so useful for local business that visit local customers.
